How it all started

Established in 2001 with a staff of four, McCormack Hardwood Sales started its humble beginnings in the home office of Company Directors and owners, Phil and Jane McCormack.  Phil and Jane along with Nick Arfaras and Glenn Lawrenson have many year’s experience in the timber industry.

After setting up the business from the home office of Phil and Jane, they moved to a small warehouse facility in Clayton.  It was in 2006 that McCormack Hardwood Sales moved to a 4285m2 site with a 2850m2 purpose build warehouse in Overseas Drive, Noble Park.

The Company has progressively grown over the years and now has a total of 19 staff proudly representing the business. 

The original four staff members, Phil, Jane, Nick and Glenn, along with Michael (Phil’s son), Matthew Leplaa and Mai make up sales, accounts and administration staff. 

A further 11 warehouse staff running on two shifts making up orders along with our delivery driver ensure that our supply and service to our customers is the best it can be.

As the Director of the Company, it’s Phil's job to strategically grow and develop the business, and as a member of the FTMA Board, it allows Phil the opportunity to be a voice and representative of others in the industry.

Jane is an Accountant who manages the financial growth of the Company, also carrying the load of keeping not only Phil in line, but also Nick, Glenn and the rest of the McCormack Hardwood Sales Team.

Part of Phil and Jane’s ‘grand plan’ for McCormack Hardwood Sales was to progressively and systematically brainwash each of their staff members into having the same affection and affinity for the Collingwood Football Club.  Given Nick and Phil’s son Michael are the only ones with the same feelings about Collingwood, we can safely say this is still a work in progress.

Nick Arfaras is the General Manager and oversees the day to day running of the business, including sales for the Northern Territory and some areas of Victoria.

Glenn Lawrenson is part of the Sales Team covering parts of metropolitan Melbourne, country Victoria as well as the interstate customer base in South Australia and parts of New South Wales.  In addition to this, Glenn also assists in the Marketing, Pricing and inventory control of the Company.

Matthew Leplaa started in the warehouse at McCormack Hardwood Sales, learning the ropes from the ground up and now services and maintains a customer base in metropolitan Melbourne, the Southern parts of country NSW and the A.C.T.

Michael also started in the warehouse, but with the growth of the business and a commitment to provide the best service we can, Michael is now based in the office and oversees administration of orders, sales and enquiries.

Jane has the support of Mai in the accounts department who provides assistance with all matters financial from staff to customers.

Our warehouse staff are a dedicated group of people who work on a rotation of 2 shifts per day.  This enables McCormack Harwood Sales to service and supply its ever-growing customer network.
