KELVIN GROVE

This Queenslander home is in the middle of a renovation to create a beautiful, comfortable and entertaining new look. The owner, Susan, had a vision for what she wanted, remebering her time in Japan and finding inspiration in the Shou Sugi Ban style of cladding. But after touching the burnt finish with her hands, she found that the charring came off on her fingers and began thinking that she would have to settle with plain cement cladding.

It wasn’t until she saw Country Home Rescue with Shaynna Blaze that Thermory Ignite 5 was an option, that it looked and smelled exactly how she wanted it, the finish didn’t come off on her fingers and it was low maintenance.

A year later, Blackmore Builders came in and added Thermory Ignite 5 to the back of the home above the garage. It made for a fantastic final touch to the house. With their attention to detail and careful workmanship, Blackmore Builders ensured that the product shines and will stand the test of time by angle nailing and face screwing the boards to reduce movement. As well as that, Thermally modified spruce is Class 1 above ground, so it’ll be rot and decay free for 25 years.

Susan and the team loved Ignite 5 so much, they used the leftover product to build themselves a bench seat!

Speaking with Simon, the owner of Blackmore Builders and project lead, he said he couldn’t speak more highly of Ignite 5. He told us that Thermory Ignite 5 was fairly easy to use, thanks to how lightweight the boards were and their pre-finished state.

He was able to use every last length of Ignite the way he wanted to, which was helped by the consistent long lengths in the pack. Simon was even further impressed when the boards got wet on site and the boards didn’t warp or twist.

His last point was how easy it was for him and his team to cut the boards to length with no splintering. It was details like that which impressed the builders the most, setting Ignite 5 apart from the other products they’ve used in the past. Simon and the team will be keeping the product in mind on similar projects in the future, commenting that thermally modified timber is definitely needed in the rain and humidity of Queensland.
